Hey guys, Any input on having my 8.75 housing hot tanked?
Seems like a simple process. Two local prices - $100 (wow)
and $30.
Are there any different processes which would explain the price difference? What can I expect? I know it would clean the thin layer of old gear oil, but what about light rust scale, paint?

What do ya think?

Well, I dropped it off today at Pittsburgh Crankshaft, they'll hot tank it for $30! I got a quote from another place that will sand blast and powder coat the housing for $150.
I'm wondering if I should just wire wheel the housing and POR15 it? I'm not looking for a show piece, just clean for my Scamp. Any thoughts guys?

Powdercoat is nice, but black rustoleam is cheaper.

I had a really nasty oil pan hot tanked for $30. Best $30 I spent on that project.

My powder coater bakes the parts for me and the oil turns to ash and the housing (K frames especially) is super clean, no residue. Then he cleans it with a power washer and powder coat, no sand blasting, which means no sand inside the housing which will cause problems later. All for $82.50.
