Three contractors had worked a long day and wanted to get some affordable shut eye. They went into a hotel and asked if they had a room with 3 beds. The clerk told them they indeed had one, and that the room was 30 bucks for the night (this was a long time ago). They each gave him 10 dollars, and he told them he would bring up the baggage shortly. They went to the room to relax. A few minutes later, the Manager walked in and asked the clerk how things were going. He said that he had rented room # 19 to some contractors. The Manager asked for how much, and he told him 30 bucks! The Manager said "We have not cleaned that room in weeks, so I want to give those guys a discount!" "Give those guys 5 dollars back, and appologize for the dirty room". The clerk took the bags and 5 one dollar bills to the room and explained the situation to them. The guys were so greatful, that they each took a dollar, and let him keep the other two dollars for a tip.
This is not a joke, but a quiz. If each guy gave 10 dollars, and received one dollar back, 3X9 equals 27, the clerk kept 2 dollars. Where did the other dollar go???
