Engine Ventilation

Guys, when we first put my motor together, we had a breather on the passenger side valve cover and the PCV valve on the driver's side valve cover. Some how on my way up to this Mopar engine guy I found the breather fell off.

Long story short, he replaced the breather with a twist-on cap, similar to the oil fill cap. So, the only crankcase ventilation is through the PCV valve. There is also a vacuum hose hooked from the brake cylinder to the intake manifold.

Is this set-up the correct set up? Someone told me that having both the PCV valve on one side AND the breather on the other would have likely caused a vacuum leak and that I only need the PCV, not both.

Any thoughts on this or which is the right set up? It would be easy enough to put another breather on, but I've been told not to have both.

Thanks,

John

Yes, if you have a '70. The correct set up for a '68-'69 is the pcv on the passenger side and the breather on the driver side.

Guys, where can I get a new breather? I'm using the MP valve covers. My recollection is that the breather had a hose coming from it attached someplace, but don't know where. The shop it's in now agreed with you guys that I need both PCV and breather, but I'm going to add the breather myself. Any help? Maybe a pic of where the hose from the breather attaches? It's an open air filter on a ProSystems carb.

Thanks,

John

For the stock location of the hose off the breather is the air filter top cover on the side of the housing. But for your setup the hose usually mounts to an adapter to the bottom of the lower air cleaner housing.
