Do I need to use lead attitive?

Hi All in a 1973 RR with a 440 do I need to add a lead attitive to the gas?

In my opinion, your '73 engine was designed to run on unleaded fuel. If the electronic ignition and factory carb are still there; they also eliminate the need to use a lead fuel supplement.
Even if you modify your engine, we are consumers of unleaded fuel. The only additive you might want to try is octane boost:taz:

Do you know what heads are on it ? The later ones had hardened seats, for that matter mopar castings were real high in nickel content so they were pretty tough. A machinist friend of mine said he wouldn't worry about any 60s or 70s mopar valve seat unless your in a high heat and towing.

Agree 100% they cause deposit fouling on your plugs. Your better off running ethanol free gas if you have it in your area.

I wish I could get ethanol free gas. I haven't found any in my area yet!

Give your runner some of the GOOD stuff

My 6BBL Runner likes a drink of the 110 from the local suzuki dealer now and then.
They wont let me put it straight in the tank so I have to take in my 5 gallon jug.
Since I don't drink anymore I figure at least she can get some "adult" type beverage once a month or so.
It costs just under $10/gallon so I get her 5 and then top her off with 91.
WOW! Does that car really seem to go well with some of that in the tank!
And it smells great too.
Some people might say it is crazy to pay that much for fuel and then drive the car just about everyday.
But then again I have always measured the car's performance in "smileage" not mileage.

there's a local ststion that sels 110 race fuel. last time i looked it was just under $8 a gallon.

a buddy just bought a 55 gallon drum of 109 octane for $400.00......not bad

I like to add Marvel Mystery Oil to the gas and a 1-QT to the oil on changes

Higher octane then you actually need does nothing except drain your wallet.

As combustion chamber pressure rises (from increased compression etc.) , the gas mixture needs to burn slower. Raising the octane level does just that... slows the flame down. An engine running gas just this side of detonation makes the most power.
