Finally got the engine back together after returning from NJ. The temp gauge reads a little hot, indicator goes to the last mark before hot. But we put a laser on the car and the top hose reads between 184 and 190 and the heads read between 195 and 200. This was after a 20 mile drive.

We used the 452 heads and though the valves were larger, we had no problems using the springs that came with the cam and lifters.

We used a Holley 770 Street Avenger and it is running a little rich so we'll get it dialed in soon.

Damn that car is long. Its longer then my Caddy SUV.

There is no engine noise except the heat exchanger valve making a little noise. The engine is quiet but I think we have to lower the RPM at idle currently at 1100.

Let me get about 500 miles on it next week and we'll see.

Thanks for all the help,
Barry

I really don't see where your that hot on a new engine, do you have a shroud on the radiator?

The gauge is probably out of calibration. Not too big of a surprise. 180-195 is a good temp to have given how hot its been around here.

Thanks for the feedback.

Anybody guess what kinda horsepower/tq I'll have. Its a 383 with 452 heads, 770 Holley dual feed car stock intake and a cam with 519 lift. Suppose to be 10:0 to 1 compression or 10.5 to 1.

Its a 323 open 4 speed and stock I know it was suppose to have 335 hp. Don't want to try and burn any tires up until I get about 500 miles on the car. :drive:

Man I hope this is right this time. :worship:

10 to 1 or more would likely lead to problems. The HP is anybody's guess. Port work? Gross vs. net?

I'd look into getting it leaned out if it were me. A rich carb can hurt rings on a new build. If it is an OOTB carb, I doubt it is THAT rich, being enough to hurt it, but...

Yeah - don't want to wash the cylinders down with unburned fuel. Not too good on the rings.
