Hello , I need some more help .My motor has black oil and smells like gas!!!! I do have shavings in the oil. Don't know how gas could get into the oil. I will need to replace all my bearings, a total rebuild ? Its a 383 engine 4 speed.I have no knocking noises just a lifter ticking. Any help here.

thanks :loco:

Your carb is draining into it or your engine or your burning super rich either way its the carb. Did your oil level on the dip stick increase?

Also check to see if pcv valve is operating correctly. If it isn't you'll have a problem like this. Back in the early '70's my mom's Gold Duster's (with the 225 slant six) pcv valve clogged. When dad checked the oil the oil level was 2 quarts higher than normal and the oil reeked of gasoline! When dad drained it you could see the gas sheen in the oil. He found the pvc valve was plugged, replaced it and replaced the oil and filter. Amazingly the car had no ill effects and continued to run great up until the winter mom lost control of it in the snow and slammed into a city bus totalling it!
The way to check the pcv valve is to remove it and shake it. If it rattles freely (there is a check ball inside) it should be ok. If you want to be sure just replace it. It is cheap insurance to have a new one anyway.

I do not think it can. It was probably from the carb. Do you believe my bearings will need replaced ? I did have some metal showing in the oil
