I'm opening up a b-body 8 3/4 to go through and freshen up and inspect on the inside. I have a question on the out side appearance, I know the housing and backing plates are black but is the center section or carrier natural cast or painted black. My Dana was all black

Mine was cast when I replaced the original center section which was 3.23. The 3.91 rebuilt center I bought from Mancini's back in the early 90's was painted black - by them.

I'm restoring some parts for the son of a nearby mopar guy. Chad is doing a full resto of a 69 runner that he got from his folks, I'm going to see if I can get him on here. For you guys that are interested in this stuff I got a real good inspection mark off the back of the housing. Keep in mind every inspector had his own penmanship and this was done prior to the brake line placement.
