How much of the dash wiring did you remove? 100% of it including the gauge cluster wiring?

You mean it cranks over and tries to start like it fires on one or two cylinders but engine won't continue to idle? Maybe into the ignition switch by now hard to tell

Does car still have POINTS or electronic Ignition? If electronic? 80% of the time the ECU will have gone bad. E bay has an ecu called "HiRev 7500" , one of the BEST replacements Ive used.
