An easy way to determine a 383 from a 440 is, the 440 has a small rectangular flat area, maybe 1 1/2" by 3" cast in the block at the top, left hand corner. the 383 doesn't have this. This is the clearest picture I could find...
I believe this is correct and please feel free to correct me if it isn't. The picture you show is that of a 489 rear end which means you have the 8 3/4 diameter gear. To find the ratio there should be a small triangular tag under one of the bolts that hold the rear end to the axle housing...
Considering the age of everything it could mean that the speedo head needs some cleaning and some lite lube but I'm not sure what kind of lube. The same with the cable.

The back side of my fuse box has several places where you can plug in extra wires. They take the terminals show below Check yours to see if it has them also.

Agreed Ray, that's an F5 car, no doubt. At first I'm thinking that car would look great in my garage next to my coupe, but not at the price after I saw the underside. Absolutely no effort was made to clean it up, what a shame.
It's hard to tell from the pics Harold, but I'd say it looks pretty close to my car. The formula they used when my car was painted was from someone who had done the research when getting their F5 car done, and it's very close to what I believe is the original paint still in the trunk area.
