Harold, from the top of the door panel chrome trim go up 2 1/4", and from the little hole for the window track adjustment go forward 2 2/3", or 4" from the bottom corner of the vent window and front window track.
It might be worth pulling the bulkhead connectors off and cleaning all those connections best you can. I'd also apply diaelectric grease on all connectors and make sure they are comlpetly seated when putting them back together. This most likely won't solve the problem but since those...
Is it any better with this gauge? The biggest part of this problem is the quality of the aftermarket sending units themself. I've tried 4 or 5 units to get on that was even close to reading correctly. In the end I had to get one of these...
IMHO, that car will need a lot of work so unless you want a full blown project I'd keep looking. And his asking price is, well, let's just say just in dream land, that car is not worth that much.
I see a light stamping of a 2 in front of the 5. So I would call the number 6125 which makes it for a '71 383 A/T On the two lists I looked up the were no numbers starting with 66.

So the starter is turning over the engine but it doesn't catch? I doubt this is the problem now but I'd check the ballast resistor to make sure that didn't go bad somehow while you were checking the wires. Also check the wiring diagram for the wires from the ignition switch through the bulk...
You say you don't have lights either but have power at the starter relay? then my first guess is there is a problem with the bulk head connector. I would disconnect them and clean them up best you can then make sure each wire is pushed in as far as it will go. Someone else may have a better idea.
Too bad you feel that way but you set yourself up with that second sentence. You got a quick response because there are a lot of knowledgeable guys here more then willing to help. But when someone says things like that then you are going to be SOL in getting help without trying to find answers...
Do what trophy hunter's around here do. Stay by your car and tell everyone who will listen how great your car is and why. They seem to grab first most of the time. Or go to shows that has judged voting who will look at the car for what it is and not at the bling it has. At least that's what...
