Yes. Just oil draining back into the pan pushed out by blow-by pressure inside the block when revving. Enough to spurt on my headers and smoke and stink. Nothing at idle.
I finally found it. It's a pinhole leak in the block about 4 inches up from the pan behind the starter. Maybe from the casting process at the factory. JB Weld to the rescue.
I got it all done and driving. Man, that makes a big difference. I really like the disc brakes. I recommend doing this on any classic. Well worth the cost and effort.
If you are happy with the way it runs just take it out and clean it up. Of course, remember where it is clocked and the firing order. Get a new cap and wire brush the outter housing, put a few drops of oil in the center shaft and you should be fine. I like to restore parts rather than replace...
I'm going to use the stock housing with the blue side seals that came in my Fel-Pro kit. What a disappointment. I finally get the pan and valve covers to seal and this.
Finally got my 440 kicking and all seems good except for the damn rear seal. My 383 leaked too. I used the billet aluminum setup from Indy Cyl. Heads. Guess I have my winter project all lined up. What have you guys had success with?
