My brother Tom and I went to look at a numbers matching 69 Roadrunner today. He bought it! Or at least they have a purchase agreement at this point. It will be at his house in about a month.
My brother currently has a 71 Satellite that has been cloned into a pretty cool GTX driver. It's been in the background of a few of my pics. He's has a buyer lined up, so he'll be essentially upgrading to this 69 RR for a few bucks after he sells his 71.
Tom has finally seen the light, and realized a 69 Roadrunner is the way to go.
He got a lead on this black 69 Roadrunner, numbers matching 383, with white interior. The car belongs to a friend of a guy he works with. The owner has had it since 85, and the car has sat in a garage since the mid-90's.
We looked it up and down for about an hour this morning. The owner was very forthright with information, and let us see anything and everything we wanted to on the car.
I was a little stumped when this numbers matching car had a turquoise engine, but my mind was set to ease after texting my buddy and he told me that AC cars in 69 have turquoise engines.
It definitely needs quarters, and I'm sure we'll find a lot more when we tear it down. While I'm not at liberty to say what he paid for it, I will say I think he got a good deal.
From what I can gather from the tag, here's what I think I know about the car....
It's a black exterior, white interior, factory ac, 383, 727 column shift car, bench seat, built at Lynch Rd. on June 25, 1969.
It has the bullet fender mounted signals on it, and bumper pads on the front and back, which are both really cool to me.
It looks like it at one time had an Air Grabber set-up under the hood, but I don't see N96 on the tag.
After looking at my pics, I think it had two horns too. Is that possible? They were both black.
Anyone want to decode it further? Go for it...
I sent my friend a picture of the tag, and he said it also had a white vinyl top and white stripe.
Here she is...
Two Horns????
The current owner painted the covers orange in the 80's...
